Green tea has been around for about 4,000 years as mostly a cure-all among the Asian people. Although it was thought of as having tremendous preventive and restorative health benefits, it has only been recently that studies have proven that this is fact. The many health benefits of drinking green tea are numerous and is believed by many to be the key to a longer life, so profound are its effects. Green tea contains anti-oxidants such as polyphenols that fight pre-mature aging, and the cells of many cancers including stomach, ovarian, prostate, colon, oral, breast and cervix.
It has become the favorite of many models, because it significantly boosts their metabolic rate, resulting in weight loss. The therapeutic powers of this tea will also increase metabolism, and reduce the bad cholesterol content of the blood. The substance in green tea that has been proven to fight cancer cells is called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), it also prevents blood clots and ultimately thrombosis. Green tea contains flouride, which is an effective protector, preventing tooth decay. Other claims include green tea being as effective against pain as aspirin.
It may also protect against ultra-violet rays that cause skin damage and also increases cognitive functions. To receive these benefits you must drink from three to five cups of green tea per day. Ordinarily, you would think that a product having as many profound benefits as green tea, must have a horrible taste. This is not the case, as green tea is very pleasant, and goes down easily. There may be other benefits of green tea, as research is continuing. Nothing but good comes from drinking it, and it is becoming more popular among our young people.
