There are many benefits to eating dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has benefits that come from flavonoids. Flavonoids is a substance that is similar antioxidants. Antioxidants help reduce the effects of aging by stopping the oxidizing of cells. Fruit like strawberries have antioxidants in them but dark chocolate has much more. Chocolate can help reduce blood pressure because it has nitric oxide and may also help with hormonal balances in the body.

The good news is that you have to eat a lot of chocolate for it to do anything. One third of the fat in dark chocolate is monounsaturated and two thirds is saturated fat and can effect cholesterol levels. Of course, this means that there is the chance of weight gain because of the combination of sugar and fat. The magnesium in dark chocolate helps keep nerves and muscles functioning to their full capacity. Dark chocolate also supports the immune system, and helps keep blood pressure at a good levels.

Dark chocolate also helps the body absorb oxygen which provides more energy from foods. Potassium in the dark chocolate helps kidney function. Also, dark chocolate contains zinc which supports a strong immune system and cell division. Dark chocolate helps improve many of the functions of the body. The minerals in dark chocolate work with the vitamins and minerals already in the body, so a balanced diet is necessary.
