How Yoga And Pilates Can Change Your Life

If you are interested in taking a Yoga or Pilates class, there are a few differences in the exercises that you may want to learn about, especially the benefits that both offer. Yoga and Pilates both have the benefit of learning body awareness. Yoga has been known to help in controlling bad cholesterol, eases arthritis pain and also can help relieve back pain. With yoga, you learn how to move by focusing on moving energy throughout your body by relaxing and breathing through each pose. This allows you to release stress, which can give you peace of mind. It is said that people who practice yoga have a calmer inner self, which allows them to live a more peaceful life.

Pilates is very similar to Yoga. Invented by Joseph Pilates, this method of exercise was used to help rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I. Pilates focuses on strengthening the core (abdominal) muscles, which allows the body to perform any task without pain or injury. By strengthening the core with stretching exercises or Pilates machines, the body becomes more flexible and is able to move more freely. Pilates also can help in achieving flat abs. Doing Pilates makes the back muscles strong and helps the body become more flexible, which helps in correcting poor posture.

As you can see, you will be able to benefit by doing Yoga and/or Pilates. However, before jumping into any exercise program, check with your doctor to make sure your body is up for the challenge.
